Welcome to the very first development update for HighFire: Emergency Response!

Over the past few days, we've been focused on laying the foundations for what will become HighFire's dynamic wildfire simulation. While the project is still in its early stages, we're excited to share a first look at the technology powering our wildfire system.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fire Simulation Prototype

Our initial prototype successfully demonstrates the core mechanics behind wildfire behaviour. Fires can now be spawned into the environment, with each fire acting as an independent simulation point that can later be expanded into a much larger fire network.

The development screenshots showcase our current debugging tools, allowing us to visualise every active fire node, its position, and internal calculations while we continue refining performance and behaviour.

๐ŸŒฟ Dynamic Fire Spread

One of our biggest priorities is creating a wildfire that feels alive rather than scripted.

The current prototype is capable of:

  • Creating individual fire nodes.
  • Tracking each active fire source.
  • Preparing the foundation for realistic fire spread.
  • Supporting large wildfire incidents made up of hundreds of individual fire points.

Future updates will introduce realistic fire propagation based on environmental conditions such as wind, fuel type, terrain, and vegetation density.

โš™๏ธ Debug & Development Tools

To assist development, we've implemented an extensive debug visualisation system. This allows us to monitor:

  • Active fire positions.
  • Fire node locations.
  • Direction calculations.
  • Spread testing.
  • Performance profiling.

Although these tools won't appear in the final game, they are essential for building an accurate and efficient wildfire simulation.

๐Ÿš’ What's Next?

Development will now focus on expanding the prototype into a complete wildfire system. Upcoming milestones include:

  • Dynamic fire spreading.
  • Fire intensity levels.
  • Burnable vegetation.
  • Suppression mechanics using firefighting equipment.
  • Optimised performance for large-scale wildfires.
  • Dynamic weather and wind systems.
  • Smoke, embers, and visual improvements.

This is just the beginning of HighFire: Emergency Response, and we're looking forward to sharing our progress as development continues.
